This review is sponsored by Vego Garden. They provided a 4Γ8 metal raised bed for evaluation. All opinions are our own β we've used it for a full growing season before writing this.
What You Get
The 17-inch tall 4Γ8 configuration includes 8 curved metal panels (2mm thick galvanized steel with a proprietary coating), a corner post system, and all hardware. No tools required for assembly β the panels click together and are secured by hex-bolt corner posts you hand-tighten.
Assembly: 45 Minutes, Two People
We assembled the 4Γ8 configuration in 42 minutes with two people. The instructions are clear. The panels are heavy (each weighs about 12 lbs) but manageable. The locking mechanism is satisfying β panels clip together firmly with no wobble.
After One Full Growing Season
Zero rust or coating breakdown. The curved panels held their shape under the weight of 32 cubic feet of dense soil. We grew tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, and basil β same crops as in our adjacent DIY cedar beds. Yield was comparable.
The Honest Tradeoff
The Vego Garden costs $219 for a 4Γ8 configuration. A DIY cedar bed costs $60β$80 in lumber. Both last 10+ years. The Vego Garden wins on aesthetics (looks significantly more polished), assembly speed, and structural rigidity on uneven ground. The DIY bed wins on cost. If budget matters, build your own. If you want the premium no-maintenance option and the look matters, Vego is the best metal bed we've used.
