🛒 Ingredients

3.5-4 lbs pork shoulder (butt roast)
Dry rub: 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp smoked paprika, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp cumin, ½ tsp cayenne, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper
1 onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, smashed
1 cup chicken broth or apple cider
Buns, coleslaw, pickles to serve

📋 Instructions

Mix dry rub ingredients. Coat pork shoulder on all sides, pressing firmly.

Layer sliced onion and garlic on slow cooker bottom. Set pork on top.

Pour broth around (not over) the pork.

Cook LOW 8-10 hours or HIGH 5-6 hours. Low is strongly preferred — the texture is incomparable.

Pork is done when it falls apart when poked with a fork.

Shred with two forks directly in slow cooker. Mix with the accumulated juices.

Serve on buns with coleslaw. Freezes beautifully in portions for up to 3 months.
